I stand corrected on my mathematics. It was never my strongest field. But I'll stand by his stagnation at Celtic. They never really asked much of him. Had he stayed for a *properly managed* Ajax side, he would be much further along.

Good post. But I think you have your years a little off. He left Ajax at 18, was at Feyenoord for three years, then at Celtic for two years, and now he's back at age 21? Hmmm. I could be wrong, but I think he only spent one year at Feyenoord (not three), and that one year wasn't even at Feyenoord, in fact, it was at NAC on loan. So really, he never actually even spent much time at all (nor made any appearances) for Feyenoord... which almost makes up for the severe character flaw of ever signing for them in the first place.

I'm actually happy about this deal, too. Sure, he spent the majority of the past two seasons warming Celtic's bench, but by saying he made a "few appearances" I think you sell him a little short. In his two seasons, he made 30 league appearances (10 starts, 20 off the bench), so it's not quite totally insignificant. At least not Barazite and Brouwer level territory of inactivity. I don't think he'll be a world-class first-teamer by any means, but I'm happy with this move. A decent 21 y/o with a lot of potential and a Champions League match already under his belt... sure, why not. He'll have a fairly low wage, and I'm happier to have a guy with room for improvement than the handful of dead weight mercenary veterans that are on the team right now and won't go away, even with MvB's strongest efforts.

And speaking of Barazite and Brower, I agree with you. The teenagers get tempted by the bling in bigger leagues, and it blinds them to the fact that the odds are severely stacked in favor of them rotting in the reserves and never making it. I haven't seen these two play much, and all indications I've read are that Brouwer was never going to make it anyway, but it sounds like Barazite actually had a legit chance. Now these guys are probably going to end up playing in the third division in England if they want to get a game. Shame.

One more central defender, please!
