Real Ajacieds at Work
By: Matt | December 5th, 2008(Excuse me while I exorcize some of my bitterness. It’s just a phase.) Contrary to media reports, Ajax will have enough players under contract this weekend to run a side out against Volendam on Sunday. The entire squad is not transferring in the wake of their (ahem) captain’s departure. Put that armband on Stek’s arm (when he is healthy) and let’s get back to the business of winning silverware, shall we?
Volendam was demolished last weekend by NEC, giving up six (!) goals. Going into the match, NEC had scored 16 in 12. Yikes. I don’t care who plays in the middle of the attack; we should score a few goals. MvB claims that it will be Cvitanich’s chance to make us all forget…what’s his name. If he performs, I expect that we will be asked to accept the possiblity of no replacement being purchased. If he fails, we might still have to face the prospect of no additions in January. So we have that going for us. I am sure I’ll come back to this soon…
We trail AZ by 3 points after the loss in Alkmaar, and they have Heracles this week. I doubt we make up any ground, but now is the time to stay close. Get the squad re-adjusted, and then chase down van Gaal in the spring. Points, man, points.
Volendam 0 – 2 Ajax
Cvitanich 46′
Suarez 56′
I am betting Cvitanich eases some of the pressure now placed on him by scoring on his “debut”. If not, he better do so soon. If MvB loses the support of the Arena, no purchase in January will be enough. We need to see that somebody knew what they were doing this week.
