Prelude to a Preview
By: Matt | August 29th, 2008Matchday number one is looming, and some pieces are continuing to fall into place. Departures mostly, but not the big one we all fear. Just the rancorous one that we all saw coming as well as the boring one that has been several years in the making. Plus, we know what small eastern European club we are going to have to defeat to advance in UEFA competition. Tomorrow, the first match preview of the year.
Kenneth Perez’s career to Ajax came to a conclusion over the last few days after he lost his court battle to train again with the first team. I think Ajax did the wise/honorable thing and terminated his contract. Sure, a transfer fee is always nice, but it could not have been much. And we do owe it to the guy. It is too bad Twente picked him up. Now I will have to hate him.
The Ajax career of Michael Krohn-Dehli also came to an end with his transfer to Brondby. Enough said.
With far less fanfare than the CL, the UEFA Cup draws were made. Instead of the lavish locale of Monaco, I think they rented a warehouse in Jersey to host the event. Regardless, Ajax will face Serbian side FC Borac to qualify for the group stages. We will host them on September 18 before traveling to 12,000 seat City Stadium of Banja Luka in early October. I don’t know which leg I should worry about more. I’ll do some research and attempt to translate pieces of this page before then.
Bad news already: Gabri is out for the weekend. Sno for a debut?

Who do you think will start in midfield? Lindgren, Aissati and Urby? Or start Sno and play Urby in the back and Vertonghen on the bench?
