

Playoffs? Are You Kidding Me?
By: Matt | April 21st, 2008Let the silliest of seasons now begin! I am not even going to attempt an explanation of the Eredivisie playoff system. I will only refer you to the chart at the bottom. I will now say this: the Dutch playoff system could only come from the mind of a European. If American “wild card” systems confuse you, you do no stand a chance at understanding this chart. That is all.
Ajax will play Heerenveen in a two legged tie May 1 and 4. Assuming we win, we will get the winner of NAC Breda and FC Twente in another two-legged tie. Win ‘em both, and we will enter the final qualifying round of the Champions League. Lose either one and we fall prey to European bureaucracy, a trip to the UEFA Cup as our consolation prize.

And in honor of the silly season…

I read that they may push up the Ajax home game to this weekend b/c of some type of memorial day-type event in Amsterdam on May 4th. Heard anything about that?
