Personnel Moves and My Own Idle Speculation

Here are some tidbits. Looks like the backroom is taking care of some business.

Rydell Poepon’s days as an Ajacied may be numbered. If you just said “Who’s that?”, don’t worry. He has been on loan for several seasons with Willem II. Despite his nine goals this year, it seems no one expects him to step in to either replace or rest KJH. Meanwhile, another loanee, Kenneth Vermeer, will be the backup (3rd?) keeper next season.

Ajax re-upped with Adidas until 2019. Looks like those sexy shirts aren’t going anywhere.

In semi-related news, it seems that the madness that is the Dutch post-season playoffs may soon be coming to an end, perhaps even to be replaced by a reasonable plan (ie, virtually the same plan as they had before).

And now, for some idle speculation. Now that the Henk ten Cate has moved on (to disaster in Turkey), is it time to get back to the business of blooding new talent? Assuming KJH leaves, I dunno if Suarez is the man for the box. He is crafty and can finish a move, but he is no targetman/predator like the Hunter. But I do expect to see some new talent on the wings. I hear the name Javier Martina on the wind all the time, along with Jan Arie van der Heijden. I just wanted to get their names on record now, because while Suarez may be the next big thing, these guys may be the next-big-thing-after-that.

Why not a youtube video? Be patient (and somewhat observant) and you’ll observe a youthful nutmeg or two from van der Heijden.

Yeah, I know, it’s quite a lot for only a little. But the boy is young, and the video is from a reserve team match. But we can feel free to begin imagining a similar move in the CL semifinal in three years. Or less. Or more.
