MvB Is Not Worried. Are You?
By: Matt | August 22nd, 2008
Marco has spoken: KJH will stay. Not because Ajax will stonewall every bid but because KJH really is happy despite semi-conflicting reports from KJH himself. Now, I said I was not going to blog every transfer rumor surrounding KJH. And I am not. I am interested in how Marco is playing this situation. What kind of a man have we got at the helm?
I see two possibilities in light of MvB’s dogged reluctance to even conisder publicly a life without KJH wearing the armband. Either
A) Marco knows much more than goal.com or Spanish newspapers or London rags about dealings between his club and other “big clubs”, and he is not a bit unnerved by all the idle talk. Perhaps he has been able to level with KJH, earn his trust, and know clearly and precisely what he wants out of this season and beyond.
or
B) Marco is stark raving mad. I am talking Captain Ahab crazy, or a buck-naked emperor rolling forty deep down the boulevard oblivious to the fact that he is flapping in the breeze. He is either steering this ship to its doom because he has no choice, or he is totally ignorant that his best player is plotting an eleventh-hour escape to Real Juventus United.
In a few weeks, when the window closes and we know how this transfer saga ends, we are going to have learned a great deal about the man we have placed all this trust in. I really want to believe scenario A awaits us in September. MvB has not given me reason to doubt him, yet. But then I remember Zlatan and Sneijder, transfer mistakes that doomed (hopefully lesser) managers.

What happens if he leaves? I’m not sure Sulejmani, Suarez or Cvitanich are half as effective as Huntelaar in a lone striker role…

I seriously hope he stays. I don’t want to see him leave the Eredivisie and think in-time he’d regret it.

See http://www.soccerway.com/news/2008/August/29/real-to-keep-chelsea-target-robinho-press. At this point who knows whether it’s true–yesterday it sounded like the deal was all but done–but if Real has really decided to keep Robinho after all, what effect, if any, will it have on the KJH saga?
