Marco’s To-Do List

By: Matt | June 23rd, 2008

Now that the Oranje are out and MvB’s weekend bender has ended, what is going to occupy his mind? (Other than waking nightmares of Arshavin running at Joris, Boulah and Andre?) Here is his order of business for his first Monday as manager of Ajax. Feel free to make additions as you see fit:

1) Find at least two quality center backs.
2) Steal KJH’s cell phone, block all incoming calls from Ruud, Sneijder, Robben and anyone else in Spain. Change your number and Bergkamp’s to read as “Daddy” and/or “Dutch Grandmaster of Important Goals”.
3) Deliver all messages from clubs interested in buying KJH to Albert Luque’s agent.
4) Seal the deal for Sulejmani.
5) Re-hire Cruijjf. Then either make nice or fire him. That way, he is either on board completely or just a cranky old former employee with an axe to grind. Bring him back or discredit him. Your call.
6) Figure out what you are going to do with Urby. (My post is a good place to start…)
7) Ask the scouts why they have not found the next Zlatan or Chivu. And why Heerenveen and Groningen beat them to KJH and Suarez.
8 ) Keep those relationships with Boulah, Orlando and De Jong positive. You never know…
9) Hire Guus Hiddink to be your tactical advisor.
10) Promise the fans that you yourself will not be next summer’s big transfer saga.

Keep ‘em coming. The man needs something to do.

KJH, Sulejamni, and Suarez = eredivisie title, even if we don’t upgrade the D at all. If we can add a couple defenders in the middle, forget it. Its coming back to Amsterdam!

How much is Sulejmani worth though? €10 million? €15 million? Some of the rumors I have heard have us bidding just shy of €20 million.

I’m nervous about Vermaalen leading the line as the most experienced central defender. I’d like to see some €’s invested in that area.

Any thoughts on the 8M Euro offer Ajax made for Henrique? Is this the guy Marco sees as Heitinga’s replacement? Interesting. Sounds like Barcelona is interested, too, but if they sign him they might loan him back to Palmeiras for another year, so maybe he’d rather choose the immediate first-team opportunity at Ajax. Defense is Ajax’s biggest weakness, so I’d actually tend to get more excited by this signing than a 18M Euro Sulejmani signing. Both would be nice though!

How about this 11 to start the year:

    Steks

    Silva Vermealen Henrique Emmanuelson

    Gabri Lindgren

    Sulejamni Suarez Cyinativich

    KJH

Of course, KJH, Henrique and Sulemanji may not be around, but if so…. not a bad squad, right? Especially after Gomes leaves PSV. (fingers crossed)

Just read that Ajax has offered $5 million for Yossi Benayoun and offered to increase his wages. Article says Spurs and Newcastle also interested but that Benayoun wants to stay at Liverpool. Would be great news, but hard to see it coming thru. Don’t see Benayoun coming here without CL football from the EPL. Has anyone heard anything on this?
