Law and Order: Ajax

By: Matt | August 25th, 2008

For those not dialed in to American television, the “Law and Order” franchise that has dominated US TV markets for nearly a decade has spawned so many variations of the same basic theme it boggles the mind. Criminals commit crimes, police investigate, lawyers and courts made decisions. Every possible wrinkle to this premise has been attempted: from sexual crimes to lunatic detectives to forensics to whatever. Somehow fresh ideas keep turning up, often from real world headlines. So now, we must prepare ourselves for the next big TX hit, Law and Order: Ajax, starring Kenneth Perez and Vito Wormgoor.

Episode 1:
Kenneth Perez, the veteran club warrior who chose to come back to Amsterdam after being unceremoniously dumped, soon finds himself on the brink again. After being dropped from training with the first team, Perez decides something severely criminal may actually be taken place. He calls his lawyers, who bring charges that the club is not living up to the contract. In an episode heavy with courtroom drama, the action peaks when Perez is called to the stand. During a heated cross-examination, the prosecuting attorney gets Perez to admit that the guys on Ajax 2 play football, too, and have signed professional contracts as well. The charges are dropped, and Perez transfers to a club in Saudi Arabia.
>>> Plot twist: During the trial it is discovered that Perez actually moved to Ajax because they have a better retirement pension plan than PSV. The jury is not amused. Henk Ten Cate laughs.

Episode 2:
Two younger members of Ajax relax with a “friendly” game of cards. Vito Wormgoor, a native Dutchman, decides that Edgar Manucharyan needs to learn a true card game rather than the several Armenian versions of poker Edgar is familiar with. Vito, however, underestimates Edgar’s incredible luck. (He did, after all, survive the mose recent culling of the Young Ajax herd). Edgar is soon way up on a baffled Vito. By the time Vito realizes that his mates were helping Edgar cheat, Edgar was out of the room counting his euros. The next day, Vito decides to square things up by stealing his money back from Edgar’s gym bag. The ever alert and vigilant Maarten Stekelenburg denies him a clean smash-and-grab, however, and turns him into MvB. Vito is dismissed from the team after a full investigation and a mock trial presided over by MvB and Bergkamp. Since they don’t care for defenders anyway, they chuckle as the tallest CB to graduate from Ajax’s youth academy in recent memory walks out the door.
>>>>> Plot twist: In the final scence, Greg van der Wiel is revealed to be the mastermind of the plot to eliminate Wormgoor. With his much taller chief rival gone, van der Wiel next begins to size up Jan Vertonghen. To be continued…
