Lame Preview For Our Lame Team
By: Matt | November 12th, 2008Today we play our second match of the KNVB Cup, and I am hating the random draw so far. FC Volendam will be our second eredivisie team in as many matches. Assuming we win, and it is far from an easy assumption, we deserve to draw some amateur squad from the countryside, yeah? Well, probably not. As for the match itself, first eleven guys to walk onto the pitch without a noticeable limp will play.
Yes, even you, Kennedy.
Our umbrella-blog has pointed out that Evander Sno is going to be taking the place of KJH. I have already compared Sno to Edgar Davids, so you can imagine how excited I am at the prospect of Sno playing the target man. Look, there is no doubt that the kid has the physical presence. He is ridiculously strong and will be great to have fighting for position in the box. But this has not been his game terribly often against experienced and organized competition (and that means all those U17s or U21 matches). I think it will work for a match or two, but once defenders figure out the limited number of tricks Sno has at his disposal, his effectiveness will be reduced (unless somebody can teach him a few new tricks in a flash. Looking at you, Bergkamp). So, one can expect a good return against Volendam and maybe even a decent showing against AZ, but I am not looking forward to seeing Sno looking to receive crosses against PSV.
So it is a good thing that Suarez has proven he can score from his wing position (that usually looks more like a wide striker anyways). I am hoping he can carry us to some points. And who knows? The extra weight on his shoulders might keep him from diving so much.
Volendam 0 – 2 Ajax
Suarez 43′
Sno 77′
I never expected to say this, but we are looking at a backline solid enough to win this match. And Vermeer is used to KNVB Cup matches.

Hee is a likely stating lineup for PSV if Oleguer and Vermaelan are out. M ost likely, Sulejanmi will start on bench. Will Sno start up front after a weak performance v Volendam? Or maybe Suarez as central striker with Kennedy and Urby on the wings? My prediction for the start:
Vermeer
Silva VD Wiel Vertonghen Schilder
Enoh Gabri Lindgren
Suarez Sno Urby
