I’ll Never Say It…
By: Matt | December 11th, 2008… but I’ll type it: “I told you so, Ryan Babel.” He tires of sitting on the bench at Liverpool, wanting instead to run and play on the green grass like other young men do. So he asked to return on loan to Amsterdam, where Ajax was invested in his future success by means of present pitch time. But big bad Rafa likes to have four or five multi-millionaires to pick from each week, so Babel was denied. Let this be a lesson to you, Klaas, for when you … oh, wait, nevermind. Too late.
On a more serious note, it is time to get ready for a big match. NAC Breda sits fourth, three points behind us, and they visit the Arena tomorrow. I have it on good authority that this is a big match (thanks, dave). NAC shot up the table like gangbusters but have stumbled lately, getting pasted last week by ADO Den Haag 4-0. We need a strong showing to convince everyone (ourselves included) that January transfers will not spell the end of our title campaign. But, I secretly hope that we do not show up so well that no one new is brought in. Don’t tell anybody, but another 1-0 scoreline would make me smile on the inside.
And with such a big match, it is nice to be getting Eyong Enoh back from the trainer’s table. Gabri is also moving around with great vigor, but I doubt we will see him tomorrow. We are slowly getting healthier, although we will only truly be overcoming the rash of injuries when we can see Aissati on the pitch for more than a few minutes.
We are probably going to see our second “Cvitanich experiment”. He has been pretty forgettable, yeah? My guess at our heroic line-up:
vd Wiel-Oleguer-Vermaelen
mystery guest-Enoh-Urby
Suarez-Cvitanich-Sulejmani
Prediction: (because someday, I’ll be right)
Ajax 1 – 0 NAC Breda
Suarez 22′

I heard Bojan Krkic from Barcelona is being loaned to Ajax so he could have a playing time, since at Barca he is on the bench.
If the loan happens, it is certainly good news for Ajax.
By the way, stop scaring our talented players from leaving the Eredivisie, by saying they will “rot on the bench”. The best will always succeed: Van Nilsterooy, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt…among others!
Of course,I would love to see Babel playing as a starter!Posted from

I’d be thrilled to get Krkic, but I’ll believe it when I see it. And, Matt, while I’d like to believe that Ajax is good enough to overcome playing a man down vs. NAC, are we only fielding nine outfield players?

Any thoughts on MvB’s comments that he believes the current first team squad of 28 is too many, and he wants it down to 24? My crystal ball, magic 8 ball analysis: Gentenaar, Kennedy, and Rommedahl sold for whatever pocket change any team will offer, a couple of the young’uns (Martina and ?) loaned out, and then either a defender or central striker bought (maybe both, if we’re really good and Santa puts us on his nice list).

mako-Yeah, my bad, add Vertonghen on that backline. He’s pretty good.
Jack- Gentenaar is gone, especially after complaining a few months back and then getting overshadowed by Vermeer. Leonardo is gone, too. I suspect that either Kennedy or Rommedahl will stay, probably the Dane ‘coz the man can fly. And I would love to see a defender and striker come in.

Sorry about not getting the exact minutes of the scoring right.
