Big Weekend, Part Two
By: Matt | November 22nd, 2008Last week we smashed PSV, and this week we face AZ. The boys from Alkmaar under some guy named Louis currently sit fourth in the table. They are on a decent run of form, and they look like a major player again this year. We sent a message last week, and that message will only resonate more with a result here. Defeating PSV proved that the title race was wide open. Taking three points from AZ will make clear that the road to this year’s eredivisie runs through the Amsterdam ArenA.
Don’t get too excited, but KJH was back in training on Friday. There is absolutely no chance that he even gets dressed on Sunday, but the original timetable of 6-8 weeks is now perhaps 4. Dario Cvitanich will likely be back, meaning that we may not have to watch poor Evander Sno do his best striker impression. I am still curious about what kind of a talent we picked up in Dario, and I would love to see him on the pitch against this side. Sulejmani is still a go, too, so we will be dangerous.
This young Ajax side has to be full of confidence, and it is possible that this will work in our favor. They will come out firing, but this could leave them exposed. Do not underestimate what a wily veteran manager can do with a talented side playing on their own pitch. I actually expect AZ to win the first half, but I cannot pick them to win it. This is a fan site, right?
AZ 1 – 2 Ajax
Hamdaoui 21′
Suarez 55′
Cvitanich 75′
