Ajax Meets Super Farmers

By: Matt | April 4th, 2008

Super FarmerThis weekend’s match at the Arena is certanly a tale of two sides of the table. Ajax is hoping to tear down the homestretch, win its final three matches, and hope that PSV continues to falter. PSV’s 8 points from their last 6 is not quite a slump, but it a dry spell that they need to break out of if they hope to retain the title. They only need five points from three to clinch, and four will ensure at least goal differential. Speaking of goal differential…

The last time Ajax played de Graafschap, our season opener on the road, we walked away with a laugher. 8-1 was the final, with KJH netting four (3 in the second half). And at halftime, it was only 2-0. Re-live that wonderful day that picked us up after losing to Slavia Prague at home, and try to forget what happened on the away leg.

Our opponent, however, has managed to slightly improve on their horrific start to the season. They currently reside one spot and one point above the relegation zone (which is actually the relegation/promotion playoff zone, grrrr). But de Graafschap is the club that introduced Guus Hiddink to the world, so that might count for something. Probably not seven goals, but something. The Super Farmers would like to avoid the messy playoffs that might take them down to the First Division again, and I would love to see them stay up. I mean, they call themselves Super Farmers. You don’t see that in the Premiership. Ajax, however, would love to avoid them some playoffs as well, and why not win something nice to put in the cupboard?

While I doubt we will catch lightning in a bottle again and ring ‘em up for 8, I do expect a solid four or five. And we’ll probably concede one when Kuffour is brought on late again to prevent a first-choice defender from picking up a card. So, let’s say

4-1
18′ Huntelaar
29′ Suarez
59′ Huntelaar
72′ Davids, I mean Huntelaar
87′ de Groot
